Alec Baldwin Facing Manslaughter Charges

Santa Fe D.A., Mary Carmack-Altwies has decided to file manslaughter charges against Alec Baldwin and two others in the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins, who tragically died on the set of Rust in October of 2021. Prosecutors cited a “criminal disregard for safety” a key issue.

Baldwin gave multiple interviews following the incident, claiming he never pulled the trigger. Contrary to his claims, the D.A. stated forensic testing prove the trigger was pulled.

What remains unclear is why any live ammunition was on the movie set to begin with. Movie industry professionals have come out in support of Baldwin, saying in his defense, crews on a movie set never expect firearms to be loaded with live rounds. Regardless, the overall disregard for human safety on the set seems to be the crux of the prosecution’s case.

According to AP, “Assistant director David Halls, who handed Baldwin the [loaded] gun, has signed an agreement to plead guilty to negligent use of a deadly weapon, the district attorney’s office said.”
It is still unknown if Carmack-Altwies will offer Baldwin any sort of plea bargain, or whether or not he would accept it.

One thing is clear, the looming charges have rocked the film industry to its core, and the tiny gods of Tinseltown have circled the wagons.
