Durham Report Drops, Exonerating Donald Trump – FBI ‘Failed to Uphold Mission’

Post Millennial: On Monday, Rep. Jim Jordan announced that he has reached out to the Department of Justice to have Special Counsel John Durham testify before Congress next week.

The House Judiciary Chairman’s tweet comes as Durham’s final report into the Trump-Russia investigation undertaken by the Department of Justice and FBI into whether the Trump campaign had coordinated with Russia to influence the 2016 election was released on Monday.

The over 300-page report found that the DOJ and FBI “failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law” in their launching of the investigation, according to Fox News.

During Durham’s years-long investigation, he indicted three people: former Clinton attorney Michael Sussmann in September of 2021, Igor Danchenko in November of 2021, and Kevin Clinesmith in August of 2020.

Sussmann and Danchenko were found not guilty, while Clinesmith pleaded guilty and served community service time.

The report said Clinesmith “committed a criminal offense by fabricating language in an email that was material to the FBI obtaining a FISA surveillance order.”

“In other instances, FBI personnel working on that same FISA application displayed, at best, a cavalier attitude towards accuracy and completeness,” it said.

“FBI personnel also repeatedly disregarded important requirements when they continued to seek renewals of that FISA surveillance while acknowledging – both then and in hindsight – that they did not genuinely believe there was probable cause to believe that the target was knowingly engaged in clandestine intelligence activities on behalf of a foreign power, or knowingly helping another person in such activities,” the report continued.

“And certain personnel disregarded significant exculpatory information that should have prompted investigative restraint and re-examination.”

Durham’s report “does not recommend any wholesale changes in the guidelines and policies that the Department and the FBI now have in place to ensure proper conduct and accountability in how counterintelligence activities are carried out.”

The report revealed that in July of 2016, US intelligence agencies “obtained insight into Russian intelligence analysis alleging that US Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had approved a campaign plan to stir up a scandal against US Presidential candidate Donald Trump by tying him to Putin and the Russians’ hacking of the Democratic National Committee.”

CIA Director John Brennan then briefed then-President Obama and other senior national security officials on the intelligence, including the “alleged approval by Hillary Clinton on January 26, 2016 of the proposal from one of her foreign policy advisors to vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by Russian security services,” the report stated, citing handwritten notes from Brennan.

This meeting included Obama, then-Vice President Biden, and two other senior Administration officials, “including but not limited to the Attorney General (who participated remotely) and the FBI Director.”

In response to the report, CNN’s Jake Tapper said, “it is regardless devastating to the FBI and to a degree it does exonerate Donald Trump.”
